The Pew Research Centre in Washington DC recently carried out a study into the demographics of users of the five most popular social networking sites – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr. The study came up with a number of findings and key amongst these were:
- 67% of web users visit social networking sites
- For each of the income bands measured in the study, Facebook was used the most among the networks with usage levels of between 62% To 73%.
- People who live in cities are nearly twice as likely to use Twitter than their rural counterparts.
- Pinterest seems to attract highly educated, affluent women.
